Cholic Acid: what it is
Cholic Acid (CAS 81-25-4) is a free bile acid. It appears as white to off-white crystalline powder and is sparingly soluble in water; soluble in ethanol and alkaline solution. In formulation work it behaves as a natural surfactant: it aggregates into micelles and helps solubilise oils, fats and lipophilic actives.

Which grade should I choose? Free acids suit oil-soluble systems and derivatisation; sodium salts dissolve readily in water and are easier to handle in aqueous formulation. Tell us the system and we will confirm the grade against the current batch COA.
